I loved this book， and was surprised to see how many people hated it/thought it was boring！！ I LOVED the characters （Rudy， Hans and Max especially so 🥺🥺 I got so attached to those three）， the narration by Death who told a pretty depressing story with humor， insight and beautiful descriptions， and the unique perspective into growing up in World War II Germany and what that might be like。 I loved the illustrations and the stories within the story。 I really just thought it was all beautiful and sad I loved this book， and was surprised to see how many people hated it/thought it was boring！！ I LOVED the characters （Rudy， Hans and Max especially so 🥺🥺 I got so attached to those three）， the narration by Death who told a pretty depressing story with humor， insight and beautiful descriptions， and the unique perspective into growing up in World War II Germany and what that might be like。 I loved the illustrations and the stories within the story。 I really just thought it was all beautiful and sad and happy and comforting and gave me all the feelings！ 。。。more

I did find the plot to be good and quite endearing， which makes me glad that the book was turned into a movie。 I personally think it should have only been a movie script， since the writing in itself， as a book， is pretty terrible。 I enjoyed the story， even the fact that it was slow， predictable， filled with ordinary aspects of life。 It made it more charming。 But the writing talent is not there and some paragraphs make you roll your eyes with all the weak comparisons and metaphors。 The sentences I did find the plot to be good and quite endearing， which makes me glad that the book was turned into a movie。 I personally think it should have only been a movie script， since the writing in itself， as a book， is pretty terrible。 I enjoyed the story， even the fact that it was slow， predictable， filled with ordinary aspects of life。 It made it more charming。 But the writing talent is not there and some paragraphs make you roll your eyes with all the weak comparisons and metaphors。 The sentences feel unfinished and straight out of a middle school essay。 Overall， I think that Zusak had a nice idea for a plot， but executed it very poorly， which is ironic for a book where the main character has as particular interest for words。 I only hope that the book Liesel had written about her own life was good and it was just Death who ruined things by retelling the story。 。。。more

sorry this isn’t more eloquent- but this one of the most beautiful things i’ve encountered in my whole existence。 i usually don’t love wwii books i almost stopped reading but i’m SO glad i didnt。 it was art。 the death pov was so interesting and cool and the “what if”s genuinely broke me。 and the inclusion of max/leisels books was so unique and real and the whole theme of chosen family and love i literally despise romance but HELLO RUDY AND THE KISS THING （and resolution） was sooo incredible i ug sorry this isn’t more eloquent- but this one of the most beautiful things i’ve encountered in my whole existence。 i usually don’t love wwii books i almost stopped reading but i’m SO glad i didnt。 it was art。 the death pov was so interesting and cool and the “what if”s genuinely broke me。 and the inclusion of max/leisels books was so unique and real and the whole theme of chosen family and love i literally despise romance but HELLO RUDY AND THE KISS THING （and resolution） was sooo incredible i ugly cried idc。 no offense the beginning i was like whatever well written book but it all came together in the end last 100 pages was BAM OH MY GOD quickly turned into one of the best things i’ve had the pleasure of reading loved this so much 。。。more

"الموت والشوكولاته"ابتدأت الرواية بتمهيد يُقدّم لنا الرواي فيه نفسه، الألوان، وسارقة الكتب، أسلوبها جذّاب جداً ومشوّق。。أجهل حقيقةً من أين ابدأ الحديث عن الرواية، لا أعلم كمّ التشتت الذي سيحصل عند كتابتي عنها، لكن لابد من اعطاءها كامل حقها في الحديث。。لنبدأ بصوت الراوي، طوال قراءتي بدى مُحيّراً وكنت اتساءل طوال الوقت:هل هو شخصية في الرواية؟ هل هو شخصية تراقب من بعيد وتحكي لنا؟ هل هو شخصية لا دخل لها بكل ذلك فقط دورها أن ترويّ؟ هل هو الكاتب نفسه؟ هل هو الموت؟مع تقدّم الصفحات والأحداث اتضحت الإجابة "الموت والشوكولاته"ابتدأت الرواية بتمهيد يُقدّم لنا الرواي فيه نفسه، الألوان، وسارقة الكتب، أسلوبها جذّاب جداً ومشوّق。。أجهل حقيقةً من أين ابدأ الحديث عن الرواية، لا أعلم كمّ التشتت الذي سيحصل عند كتابتي عنها، لكن لابد من اعطاءها كامل حقها في الحديث。。لنبدأ بصوت الراوي، طوال قراءتي بدى مُحيّراً وكنت اتساءل طوال الوقت:هل هو شخصية في الرواية؟ هل هو شخصية تراقب من بعيد وتحكي لنا؟ هل هو شخصية لا دخل لها بكل ذلك فقط دورها أن ترويّ؟ هل هو الكاتب نفسه؟ هل هو الموت؟مع تقدّم الصفحات والأحداث اتضحت الإجابة التي كانت جليّة منذ البداية، صوت الرواي مميز وفريد。 🙇🏻♀️。زمن الرواية هو زمن الحرب العالمية الثانية، هتلر وألمانيا النازية، مكانها بلدة مولشينغ، شارع هيمل، المنزل رقم ٣٣。وقفت سارقة الكتب أمام عائلتها الجديدة #هوبرمان، حينها كانت مجرد طفلة تدعى #ليزيل_ميمنجر سترافقها الكوابيس والكتب والكلمات والدموع。。نأتي لـ#الحرب التي تسلُب المرء كل شيء。سترى هنا اضطهاد اليهود وكأنهم قذارة تسير وليسوا مجرد #بشر ！ سترى بعض الألمان يكبحون قلوبهم، ويبتلعون حقيقتهم، ويقولون "يحيا هتلر！"。تعرفت بصورة واضحة جداً عن كمّ الذُل والوحشية في تلك الفترة، ألمانيا واليهود، الجنود والعامة، الأبناء والآباء، الأمهات والإنتظار، الأطفال والجهل، الحسرة والبؤس وشقاء القبو والرهبة من الغارات。。شيء مُخزيّ فعلاً، حينما يفعل البشر بالبشر ما هو سيء للجنس البشري بأكمله، التحيزات والعنصرية، الإخضاع والتهديد، التعذيب وطرق القتل، التفنن في صور الدمار المعنوي الخفيّ قبل المرئي。。رغم كوني لا أحب ما يتعلق بالتاريخ والسياسة وما يتبعها، إلا أنني أحببت جداً ربط كل ذلك في سيناريو كهذا مع سارقة كتب، توقعت أن يتخللني الملل。。 لكن لا ولا للحظة واحدة، القراءة كانت سلسة رغم كثرة الصفحات والأسلوب جذّاب أيضاً، وأنت بنفسك ستندمج بالقراءة بصورة لم تتوقعها。。ما كان مستفزاً هو （حرق） الكاتب لبعض الأحداث القادمة، لكن في الحقيقة بعد تمعن وجدته دافع تشويقي ظاهر بصورة واضحة ومناسبة، وأعطى تميّز لأسلوب الكاتب。 🤝🏻-----جمعت الرواية واقعة الحرب في إطار فتاة تمّ تبنيها، فتاة تتعلم القراءة لأجل كتابٍ سرقته في جنازة أخيها، فتاة رأت عالماً ملوناً لم تصدقه إلا عند ملامسته، فتاة بدأت بسرقة ذلك العالم الذي مُنِح لها。。بطلتنا سارقة الكتب #ليزيلطوال الصفحات حملت بداخلها الحزن، وبذاكرتها وزناً لا بأس به من السعادة، والكتب ستجعلها تحظى بمُتكئ من الكلمات، مؤنس ومتنفّس من كل شيء، وربما قد تمنحه لغيرها فكل شيء يتغير برمشةِ عين。。جميع من ذُكِر أسمه من هانز وروزا ورودي إلى بقية من بشارع هيمل وحتى إلسا هيرمان وماكس، كان له حيزه، معاناته، سعادته، ودوره ومكانه في مرور الأيام。ستعيش وتشعر معهم، سترتبط بهم حتى الصفحة الأخيرة، وستعرف كم كانوا لطفاء。أعتقد أنني تعلقت كثيراً بالرواية من دون أن ألحظ، عندما أنهيتها استشعرت ذلك。 🙄。المعاني المحمّلة بالرواية كثيرة ولا توصف، عجيب كيف وضع الكاتب كل ذلك في تسلسل بسيط وممتع، عجيب كيف لسطرٍ واحد أو فقرةٍ واحدة أن تجعلك تتفكّر في الكثير من الأمور، وقد تجد الحل لأشياء تختلج في داخلك، تبتسم وتدمع في آن، تتفق وتنكِر، البسيط يصبح عظيم، العظيم يصبح بسيط。。 والكثير الكثير الذي لا يسعني التعبير عنه ستراه عندما تقرأ。。ستكون بين يديِّ رواية مرتبطة بالتعاطف بشكلٍ كبير، يستحيل عليك أن لا تدمع أو تتأوّه، أو تحدّق في السطور لإثارة أو شفقة أو بؤس، أن لا تفكر بها حتى عندما لا تقرأها، أن تعود لفتح الكتاب بعد دقيقة من إغلاقك له。 صدقني فذلك حدث لي فعلاً بلا مبالغة。 🙇🏻♀️。رواية رائعة للغاية بكل جوانبها وأحداثها، أسلوب ولغة مُبهِرة جداً، الترجمة ممتازة، الكثير من السطور كانت تحمل تعبيراً جميلاً ومؤلماً، لن تندم على قراءتها。 💯تُشكر المترجمة على بعض التوضيحات لبعض الأمور التي ذُكِرت。 ✔️。جدير بالذكر أن للرواية فلم بنفس الأسم، نسيت معظمه لكنني أتذكر كونه يستحق المشاهدة。#TheBookTheif 。。。more

Personally， I found this book very unique。 The narrator in some parts， Death， and how he told this story was an very other type of experience for me。 In a way， he almost looked down on me like I was only a petty， puny human being and that all human beings will eventually。 Death looks at the death of a human being not like us。 Though we know life will continue after us， we still see it as our ends of time。 Death sees it like another soul to collect。 It creates a sort of barrier to the story and s Personally， I found this book very unique。 The narrator in some parts， Death， and how he told this story was an very other type of experience for me。 In a way， he almost looked down on me like I was only a petty， puny human being and that all human beings will eventually。 Death looks at the death of a human being not like us。 Though we know life will continue after us， we still see it as our ends of time。 Death sees it like another soul to collect。 It creates a sort of barrier to the story and sometimes reminded me that everyone dies， and that death is inevitable。 Except for Death himself。 The random moments where he speaks or thinks， that are highlighted， I think add to the story and again， detaches us from it for a brief moment。 I can see why people would find this annoying and disruptive but I think these helped the story and also the relationship between death and the horrible events that happen in the book。The book also helped me understand both sides of the war more。 Most of the media I read and watched explained the events well， but made it， for me seem like the allies were the heroic men who put their life on the line for their side， and that the Germans were the evil people who tried to take over the world and， indeed， the bad guys。 The British bombing on Himmel Street caused so many of her companions to die， and this book really showed me that and helped me understand the side of the ordinary German citizen。 This book isn’t really mood switching really at all。 The mood throughout is pretty dark， grim and the sadness about Liesel’s story lets you realize you that it was like this for many people， on both sides， and how serious it is。 I don’t know if I like the seriousness of it though。 This brings me onto the ending of the story， which was also a bit sad but not wrong I think。 I definitely understand why Liesel was at peace in the end。 Maxes story ends in a reunion after the war， and I found him very likable wanted to know what happens to him after the reunion。 We don’t though， which I find a bit annoying。 Overall， I thought the story was very interesting and likable， but I found the way that it was delivered sometimes pretty boring。 It’s a， in my mind pretty long book and I feel like you could’ve had the same story condensed in only 300 to 400 pages with the exact same story and characteristics。 Some of the book for me and also other group members felt like filler。They also felt like some of the stories （like Maxes） were unanswered and unfinished。 I partially agree with this because I think some stories should be finished and some shouldn’t。 We did agree that the ending went a bit smoother and nicer to read。 Someone from our group also felt like the stories switched too fast and that the stories didn’t have time to develop。Overall， I think this book is not for everyone because of the sometimes harsh flow of the book but if you do like it， that you will like it very much。 The story is incredible and the way it’s written I find is amazing。 。。。more
